This 1 Franc coin comes from the former Belgian colony Belgian Congo. It was issued during the years 1946 to 1949. The colonial period of Belgian Congo ended in 1960. The brass coin is decorated with a particularly beautiful representation of a typical forest elephant. The gentle giant is still at home in the tropical forests of Central and West Africa. The obverse of the coin shows the value of 1 Franc. Furthermore, the name of the National Bank was embossed bilingually in both French and Dutch
