Stamps from Lithuania

Population: 3.545.319 - Capital: Vilnius - Currency: Litas - 1st issue: 1918/1990

Lithuania is the largest of the three Baltic countries and became, just like Estonia and Latvia, an independent state  after the collapse of the Soviet Union and has therefore issued their own stamps since 1990. Otherwise Lithuania had been independent after the 1st world war, where the country issued stamps, but after the 2nd world war the country was incorporated into the Soviet Union. Lithuania is especially known for its interesting nature with rounded mountains and flat valleys and the country has more than 700 rivers and streams, which supply  the forests and the approx.. 3000 lakes with water. An interesting collection area, where the themes very naturally relate to the national and the historical events.
