AFA catalogue value DKK 2400. Only 69500 copies issued. MICHEL catalogue number Greenland 8-16. Scott catalogue number 10-18. Due to World War II, direct communication with Greenland was interrupted from 1940 to 1945. The Greenlandic administration chose to collaborate closely with the USA. A series of new stamps were engraved and printed by the American Bank Note Company. The motifs were selected from books or photographs. Issued in sheets of 100 with the American marginal number F11826. Without a watermark and with perforations. Note: Free postage in Greenland resulted in stamps being primarily used on mail to America until July 1945 when communication with Denmark was restored. It is remarkable how often even used letters are cancelled with the first-day date! It suggests that until June 1945, several post offices used the date 1.2.1945. The six øre denominations in the series were sold out at post offices in 1945, while the values of 1, 2, and 5 kroner could be purchased until 1952, 1955, and 1960, respectively.
